BOSTON (February 14, 2012) – The Massachusetts Army National Guard and the Boston Celtics hosted a Black History Month event with thirty students from C.A.S.H. High School in Dorchester at the team’s practice facility in Waltham.
Boston Celtics Guard Keyon Dooling joined the students in reviewing monumental events and time periods in African-American History through an array of activities featuring a Black History Month themed Slammin’ Trivia game.
“Taking part in an event like this is a lot of fun and very educational at the same time,” Dooling said. “It’s important for these students to recognize the hard work African-American leaders put in to fight for equal rights. I hope that this afternoon’s experience leaves a lasting impression on them that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.”
In preparation for Slammin’ Trivia, the Celtics players and students took part in an interactive human timeline that represented specific time periods and events in African-American History. In small groups, the students gathered in chronological order to best represent their given time period and event through small skits, lectures, and performances. Each group then acted as a team to answer questions about Black History Month in the Slammin’ Trivia game.
This season the Boston Celtics and the Massachusetts Army National Guard are teaming up to celebrate Black History Month. During the month of February, the Celtics and the Massachusetts Army National Guard will be highlighting historic happenings in African-American history through home games, events, and Celtics.com.
