BOSTON – When you’re winning, you can get away with a lot of things. When you’re not winning, everything comes under a microscope and fans want to know why.
Boston Bruins net-minder Tim Thomas went back to Facebook on Wednesday and posted his political thoughts for the world to see. More than 900 Facebook followers “Liked” Thomas’ remarks and another 350+ found it necessary to comment on the posting.
The following was taken from the Facebook page title Tim Thomas…
I Stand with the Catholics in the fight for Religious Freedom.
“In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up.”
– by Martin Niemöller, prominent German anti-Nazi theologian and Lutheran pastor, best known as the author of the poem First they came….
In Ottawa for the NHL All-Star Game, Thomas was interviewed an proclaimed for a national TV audience to hear that he was no longer going to comment on his political stands. I’m guessing he reserved the right to change his mind ?
When you win hockey games, the sky is the limit on what you can say and get away with. When you play :500 hockey over the past two months, fans want answers.
Tim, get off of Facebook, get your head in the game and stop some pucks.
