WEEI 850 Boston announced today that they were making significant changes to its on-air personalities in hopes of stemming the tide from 98.5 The Sports Hub which has recently caught up to EEI in the ratings.
The following is a copy of a press release sent to Boston Sports Desk:
(Boston, February 15, 2011) - Writing a new chapter in its 20-year history as the national sports talk radio leader, the WEEI Sports Radio Network today announced a major change to its afternoon drive-time show.
In a move that creates a “Dream Team” pairing two of Boston’s most respected and entertaining personalities, Michael Holley, who has co-hosted the midday “Dale and Holley” program on WEEI since 2005, is moving to afternoon drive-time, joining Glenn Ordway for “The Big Show with Glenn Ordway and Michael Holley.” The program will air weekdays from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and launches on February 28.
WEEI will be announcing details on a revamped midday show in the coming days.
Boston Sports Desk has learned that Dale Arnold, Holley’s current co-host will either be let go or given fill in duty around the station. Rumors have been circulating for the past few days that Lou Merloni and Mike Mutnansky will be taking over teh 10-2 slot.

Holly wont tolerate all the yelling that goes on with the Ordway group. It will be interesting. Dale has been there too long. Although I liked Dale, I welcome a change.
Agreed !!!
Stopped listening to these Blowhards the day Eddie Andelman left…..I was so happy when 98.5 came on the air and now they are blowing them away……..Fat Boy Sheppard was the first one to go and the other Fat Boy Ordway is going next and the two morning racists won’t be far behind……………..Good Ridence to a bunch of pigs.
I agree with Sportsnut that the Big “O” show has to much bickering and yelling over each other and the morning show is tooooo heavy politics and personal views of recent new stories, and Dale and Holley were the one bastion I could count on for good sports talk. I hope Holley can bring some levelheadedness to the Big “O” show. Dale is a great host and I hope he has continued success on the radio, but I hope he doesn’t go to 98.5 as they appeal to a younger crowd of kids who listen just to knock WEEI one way or another.
I still think that Eddie Andelman was the best in sports talk radio. I do like Dale and Holley, but I loved Dale with Bob Neumeier. Pete Sheppard always annoyed me, and I tolerated the Big Show every day, because I love Sports talk radio. Weei got too coocky, which will happen when you are #1 for so long. 98.5 is great, they love talking about sports and don’t tell lame fat jokes every day.
Thanks for the input. Competition is good and I think both stations will be better served because of it….

Kevin i agree competition is good, However, guys like gresh, zo, mazz and felger and even john wallach all started on eei. and they all act as if eei is some fly by night station. I do wish Weei would go to F.M. tho
about time goober arnold left, now if they can get rid of callahan and ORDWAY listenin might be more pleasurable. also no co-hosting for buckley… when is he going to his own station w-me-me-i and take smerlas and mustard with him
I really liked Dale and i’m sorry to see him go. Ive listened to Weei forever. 98.5 sucks.. called them 1 day to talk hockey with zo and the fatman..on hold 35mins, producer comes on the line and says ” call back at 1:00″ im like why? he says because they are no longer talkin about the bruins..so i do,, on hold for another 35mins,,i’ll never listen to 98.5 again..you mix it up, or as 98.5 does it, your only allowed to talk about what the hosts are during that particular segment..they suck
Thanks for the comments Mike ! The ratings show 98>5 is catching up…we will see.
